St. Lucia

St. Lucia joined the Commonwealth in 1979 and had their National Olympic Committee recognised 14 years later in 1993.

The island is part of the Windward Islands group which form an arc jutting out from the Eastern Caribbean into the Atlantic. It lies south of Dominica and north of Barbados.

St. Lucia made their Games debut in 1960 and competed next in 1970 and 1978 before participating uninterrupted since 1994. Their first medal came in Manchester in 2002 when Dominic Johnson picked up a bronze for his 5.60 metres leap in the men's pole vault competition. Again at the athletics track in Delhi St Lucia won another bronze, this time Lavern Spencer jumped 1.88 metres in the women's high jump.  

The St Lucia National Olympic Committee is responsible for organising the country's participation in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.
