Mozambique

The Republic of Mozambique joined the Commonwealth in 1995, a former Portuguese territory they made their debut in the 1998 Commonwealth Games which were held in Kuala Lumpur.

This south-east African nation took gold and silver on their debut in Kuala Lumpur via the women's 800m track final. The legendary Maria Mutola claiming the first prize in Malaysia, a feat she repeated in the 2002 Manchester Games. At the Melbourne Games in 2006 she took a bronze in the same event. At the 2010 Games in Delhi Mozambique took part in athletics, badminton and swimming.

Established in 1979, the Mozambique National Olympic Committee is responsible for the country's participation at the Commonwealth Games and in the Commonwealth Youth Games.
