Baton visits 2006 host city
Tuesday, 20 April 2010
On the 174th day of its epic journey around the Commonwealth, the Queen’s Baton from the Delhi 2010 Games reached Melbourne, the host city of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
It was a glorious day in the Victorian capital, a late autumn reminding visitors of the beauty of the city.
The Queen’s Baton Relay made the long journey from Canada to Australia, uninterrupted by the volcanic dust interrupting flights on the other side of the world.
The Queen’s Baton got a bird’s eye view of the city of Melbourne from Rialto Towers, one of the tallest reinforced concrete structures in the southern hemisphere.
