The Queen’s Baton on its final halt in the land of the kangaroos visited Brisbane and Gold Coast in Queensland today. The Queen’s Baton is currently in Australia spreading the message of peace, harmony and brotherhood through XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi scheduled for October later this year.

On the arrival at Brisbane the baton was taken to the Kelvin Grove State College for an educational visit accompanied by current and former sporting stars along with students. This educational visit was followed by the baton’s journey across the Gold Coast. 

The public celebration for the arrival of the Queen’s Baton began around afternoon at the Broadwater Parkland.  Young gymnast of the Gold Coast Gymnastics Club gave a splendid performance on the occasion. The Indian Community of the Gold Coast India Cultural Association also participated in celebrating the arrival of the Queen’s Baton through various cultural and traditional performances.

The final leg of the celebrations saw Emma Snowsill, Commonwealth Games triathlon champion become the Batonbearer at the ceremonial handover function. The function was also graced by performances from the local Indian community followed by the handing of the baton to Gold Coast mayor Ron Clarke for the official welcome. The baton was then handed to Her Excellency Sujatha Singh, Indian High Commissioner in Australia.

The Queen’s Baton has now left for Papua New Guinea.
