One step to India
Tuesday, 22 June 2010

The Queen’s Baton Relay 2010 Delhi, on its way to India, has reached its penultimate international destination, Bangladesh.

The excitement was high as the baton received a warm welcome at the Dhaka airport.

Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River, Dhaka, along with its metropolitan area, has a population of around 13 million, making it the largest city in the country.

It is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Dhaka is also known as the Rickshaw capital of the world. Approximately 400,000 cycle rickshaws run each day. Today it serves as one of the prime centres for culture, education and business in the region.

Bangladesh first participated in 1978 Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton, Canada. The nation is a regular participant in all Commonwealth Games since 1990 Auckland Games.
