Tenpin Bowling set to go
Sunday, 20 February 2011

Final preparations are underway by host Federation, the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress, to welcome bowlers from numerous Commonwealth countries to Kuala Lumpur for the V Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship.   Venue for the Championship is 48-lane Sunway Megalanes in Petaling Jaya, host centre for the XVI Commonwealth Games in 1998.

In the spirit of the Commonwealth Games – often referred to as the ‘Friendly Games’, there is no discrimination against any country or person on the grounds of race, colour, religion or politics and the Championship is endorsed by the sport’s international governing body, the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ).

The Championship is also endorsed by the Commonwealth Games Federation and CGF Vice-President, YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran will officially open the tournament at a colourful ceremony on Sunday, 20 February.

A message of goodwill to participants and officials sent by CGF President, the Hon. Michael Fennell OJ., CD, will also be read during the opening ceremony.

“Malaysia's capital city holds a special place in the history and development of Commonwealth sport due to its hosting of the 1998 Commonwealth Games.  Breaking new ground, this was the first time our Games had been held in Asia and saw team sports join the programme for the very first time.  In addition this was the Games where Tenpin Bowling made its debut too, with all of our six regions represented and with nations from four of those areas sharing the fifteen medals on offer…..”

“The hosting and successful delivery of events such as these Commonwealth Championships provides your sport with the platform to develop and promote itself to a wider audience including future bid and host cities,” Mr. Fennell’s message reads.

“These are exciting times for sport within the Commonwealth and I am sure that the V Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships will again raise the profile and significance of sport within the Commonwealth,” he added.

Full details of the V Championship schedule, venue and participants can be found at the Championship’s official website - www.ctbc2011.org.
